On 1 December 2023 the brand new, second issue of Antarktikos will be published. The magazine is founded by Esther Kokmeijer, APECS Netherlands member.

The magazine is special because it combines artistic interpretation and scientific perspectives of the Antarctic. Here is what Esther says about her magazine’s concept:

I founded Antarktikos because I believe in the power of combining art and science. In many ways, scientists and artists share the intangible and mental ownership of Antarctica. They are not interested in the conquest itself or the possession of it. Instead, they temporarily engage with the continent to bring knowledge, ideas, inspiration, confusion, beauty, wonder and urgent questions to the world. With Antarktikos I hope to create a platform for a wide range of artistic and scientific perspectives that can strengthen each other, with the aim of reaching the mind through the heart.

Antarktikos #2 Light and Shadow is divided into three chapters;

Into the Cosmos
On the Continent
Into the Depths

The content includes stories, works and research about; Aurora Australis, Sounds of Space, solar eclipse, meteorites, blueness of (glacier) ice, Winter-over, underwater.
