Our Mission

What We Do

APECS Netherlands is the Dutch national committee of the Association of Polar Early Career scientists (APECS). It is an international and interdisciplinary organization for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early faculty members, educators and others with interests in Polar Regions and the wider cryosphere. APECS Netherlands organizes and joins symposia, workshops and outreach events in the Netherlands and provides a platform for networking, education, outreach and career development for polar early career researchers.

We receive funding from the NWO Dutch Polar Programme (Nederlands Polair Programma – NPP) for our activities and we co-organize with NWO NPP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once a year the grand Polar Symposium (Poolsymposium).

  • Creating a network of polar researchers. APECS Netherlands platforms offer an opportunity for members to receive feedback, support, and engagement from the polar research community. This can lead to valuable discussions, exchange of information, and new perspectives on one’s own science field.

  • Promoting access to resources. Sharing information about polar conferences, jobs, internships, publication, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Promoting education and outreach. We seek to advocate for the continuation and advancement in polar sciences and stimulate future generations of polar researchers.
