PhD candidate Antarctic trace metals

Florine Kooij

I am a PhD candidate researching trace metal micronutrients in the waters of the Antarctic continental shelf. These trace metals, particularly iron, control the growth of algae that form the bottom of the foodweb and store carbon in the deep ocean. But as of yet, we don’t fully understand how these metals enter the Antarctic waters – especially now that climate change is shifting the whole system.

For APECS NL, I am in charge of the website (nice to see you having a look 😉) and help with organizing events, such as the APECS part of the Polar Day. Looking forward to meeting you at one of our events!
