After a hiatus of several years, APECS NL returned to the 17th edition of the Pool tot Pool symposium, held recently in the Wereldmuseum Leiden. Amidst the backdrop of fascinating lectures and engaging discussions, our presence at the symposium proved invigorating.

The symposium’s attendees were treated to a diverse array of topics related to polar research, each shedding light on the intricacies of polar environments and the challenges they face. This year’s edition included lectures about the limits to greening in the Siberian lowland tundra, the state of Antarctic ice, Zoology, and more.

Our stand provided a platform for meaningful exchanges and connections throughout the day, as we engaged with fellow enthusiasts and shared our passion for polar research. From interesting lectures to captivating conversations, the Pool tot Pool symposium was a testament to the enduring allure of the polar realms. We highly recommend joining next year!

As the day drew to a close, we departed with a renewed sense of curiosity and inspiration, having met a lot of new polar enthusiasts, and were once again faced with the enduring relevance of polar research.

The next edition of this symposium will be held on March 8, 2025! *
