2 PhD positions in Arctic Biology
The advertised PhD positions are in the field of terrestrial biology, focusing on the insulating effect of aboveground or belowground microbial communities and their traits on the frozen ground.
The two PhD students will work at UNIS (the University Centre in Svalbard) and will be under direct supervision of Dr. Simone Lang. In the Netherlands, Dr. Rúna Magnússon (APECS NL member) and Dr. Juul Limpens from Wageningen University will co-supervise the two projects.
Furthermore, there is an opportunity to collaborate with a team of researchers from Wageningen University, the University of Gothenburg, the University of Bergen, the University of Copenhagen and the Braunhofer Institute of Chemical Technology.

1 PhD position in Arctic Digital Media
Be part of Arctic Digital Media PhD project and investigate the digital landscapes of Inuit communities in the Foxe Basin region of Nunavut, Arctic Canada. Complementing intergenerational (oral) traditional-knowledge sharing, digital media activities have become crucial to navigating and responding to the dynamic topography and biogeography of the region. This media engagement–often coupled with traditional activities, such as subsistence hunting, takes many forms: spatial tagging and locative media, climatic media, data visualizations, GIS mapping, use of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) (or drones), videography, and networked communications via digital platforms.
The position is offered at the University of Groningen, supervised by Dr. J.D. Schnepf and Dr. Sean Desjardins.
